Fifth CERE Seminar
TVET in Brazil: Historical Notes, Contradictions and Current Political Challenges
This seminar will explore the main historical characteristics of TVET in Brazil and its current legal and regulatory organization. It will demonstrate the national provision of TVET, with emphasis on the Federal Network of Professional and Technological Education, the main entity responsible for this policy. The presentation will focus on debates about competing theoretical conceptions of TVET, especially "qualification as a social relation" and the "competency model", considering the link between this modality and basic education, particularly high school, a stage of schooling required for the training of technical workers. Finally, it will observe contradictions regarding the complex nature of TVET in Brazil and the trend towards precarious work.
